In [[Statistics|statistics]], a [[Central Tendency|central tendency]] of a [[Math/Probability and Statistics/Dataset|dataset]] is a [[Statistic|statistic]] [[Variable|variable]] that describes its central position, which includes the [[Mode|mode]], [[Median|median]], and [[Mean|mean]].
### Relations
![[skew-left.png|300]]
A histogram (see [[Frequency|frequency]]) can illustrate the relation between the different central tendencies. If a histogram is symmetric, then the mean, median, and mode are equal. If a histogram is skewed towards one direction, then its median will be shifted towards that direction, despite the bulk of the data remaining there.
